São Paulo Military Police Retire Jailed Lieutenant Colonel Accused of Killing Wife With Near-Full Pay

The decision spotlights rules that allow near-full retirement pay during ongoing criminal and disciplinary cases.

Overview

  • The Military Police, which published the retirement order Thursday, moved Tenente-Coronel Geraldo Leite Rosa Neto to the reserve with pay calculated at 58/60 of his last salary, an amount reported around R$20,000 to R$21,000 a month.
  • Rosa Neto has been held in preventive detention since March 18 in the Romão Gomes military prison, charged with feminicide and procedural fraud in the death of his wife, Soldado Gisele Alves Santana.
  • Forensic reports from the medical examiner and technical police rejected suicide, citing a close-contact shot to the right temple, bruising and nail marks on the face and neck, and signs the crime scene was altered.
  • Public security officials said the retirement does not halt the expulsion case, and they noted his active-duty pay was suspended after his arrest even as reserve pay now applies under personnel rules.
  • SPPrev said the victim’s minor daughter has an approved survivor’s pension with the first payment scheduled, while Governor Tarcísio de Freitas urged loss of rank and condemned the officer’s alleged crime.
