São Paulo Carnival Safety Operation Arrests 150 Convicted Abusers of Women

Overview

• Launched on Feb. 9 as Operação M - Carnaval Seguro, the effort targets more than a thousand outstanding arrest warrants across municipalities in São Paulo state.
• Public security officials reported the seizure of four irregular firearms during the sweeps.
• The OAB-SP’s Comissão Mulheres Advogadas deployed 368 trained volunteer lawyers to provide on-site legal support at street blocos and the Anhembi Sambódromo.
• In the São José do Rio Preto region, 27 men were detained on Wednesday as police executed eight search warrants with 178 officers and 65 vehicles.
• In Avaré, civil police executed two arrest warrants related to violence against women and carried out a search at a teacher’s residence, with the operation continuing statewide.
