Snowflake to Acquire Natoma to Build Native Governance Layer for AI Agents

Snowflake plans to embed Natoma’s Model Context Protocol into its AI Data Cloud to control agent identity, tool access and audit trails.

Overview

  • Snowflake has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Natoma, a company that builds Model Context Protocol (MCP) gateways for AI agents, and the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions.
  • Natoma’s platform gives each AI agent an identity and enforces identity-aware authorization, policy rules and full audit logs so agents can discover, access and act on systems with traceable permissions.
  • Snowflake says it will integrate Natoma into the AI Data Cloud so Cortex Agents, Snowflake Intelligence, Cortex Code and other agent platforms can connect to SaaS apps, APIs, on-prem systems and VPCs under unified governance.
  • The companies say the integrated features will be available to customers soon, but Snowflake cautioned that closing, integration, personnel retention and execution risks could affect timing and benefits.
  • Snowflake frames the buy as a way to help enterprises scale autonomous agents safely by reducing fragmented governance and data-exfiltration risk while extending Snowflake’s role from a governed data foundation to a broader control plane for agent-driven workflows.
