Smokey Bones Shuts All Restaurants Nationwide

The BBQ chain closed during FAT Brands’ Chapter 11 process with asset sales underway.

The Colonie barbecue restaurant Smokey Bones closed Tuesday, as did all 19 other locations. 
This Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill location in Springfield, IL is among those that closed suddenly on Tuesday, April 28.
Chain and fast-food restaurants aren't the only eating establishments guilty of serving oversize meals.
Barbecue restaurant chain Smokey Bones is permanently closing all locations.

  • FAT Brands’ spokesperson confirmed Wednesday that all Smokey Bones locations had ceased operations as of Tuesday, April 28.
  • Employees at multiple sites said they were told the same day the doors were locked, and many restaurants posted paper closure notices.
  • The chain’s website now shows every store marked closed for all days, and online ordering and reservation links no longer function.
  • The shutdown follows January 26 Chapter 11 filings by FAT Brands and operating arm Twin Hospitality after earlier assurances that restaurants would stay open.
  • Twin Hospitality had planned to convert 19 Smokey Bones units to Twin Peaks and close 15 others, and court filings this week name a successful bidder and a backup as the sale process advances.
