Small Plane Crashes Into East Troy Cornfield

Walworth County investigators joined by FAA specialists are examining the wreckage to determine what caused the crash.

Overview

  • A single-engine fixed-wing plane crashed into a cornfield near Carver School Road and Lawlor Road about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, less than three miles south of East Troy Municipal Airport.
  • Town of East Troy police said all four people aboard survived with non-life-threatening injuries and that three were taken to hospital for evaluation while one was treated at the scene.
  • Walworth County authorities opened a local investigation and the Federal Aviation Administration has responded to inspect the aircraft and the crash site.
  • The aircraft is reported to be registered to an address in Waterford, Wisconsin, but registration does not by itself identify who was flying or explain the cause.
  • Investigators will secure the site, interview witnesses, and review maintenance and flight records, so officials warn a definitive cause could take time to determine.
