Overview
- Flood watches were in effect late Tuesday for much of Central and Western New England and are expected to remain through Wednesday evening.
- Forecasters project widespread rainfall totals of more than 2 inches across Southern New England with common local amounts of 3–4 inches and some forecasts warning of isolated 6+ inch pockets.
- The highest flash-flood threat is concentrated west of I-495 and along corridors toward the New York border with the peak danger from early to late morning Wednesday.
- Boston was forecast to see heavier downpours after about 9 a.m. Wednesday with some local guidance putting arrival near 11 a.m., which could make commutes especially hazardous.
- Repeat storms combined with very humid air and slow eastward motion mean showers will linger into Thursday, increasing the chance of rapid street and basement flooding and short-term travel disruptions.
