Slovenia Pulls Eurovision Broadcast, Replaces It With Palestinian Film Series

The move signals a widening protest by European public broadcasters over Israel's inclusion.

Overview

  • RTV Slovenia, which confirmed the change Thursday, will black out the contest and air the Voices of Palestine film series.
  • Spain's RTVE said it will not carry the show, a first since the country joined the contest in 1961.
  • Ireland's RTÉ will also skip the broadcast after announcing in December that it would not take part.
  • The Netherlands and Iceland withdrew their entries but will still air the show on NPO and RÚV.
  • The contest is scheduled for May 12–16 in Vienna with 35 participating countries after the EBU cleared Israel to compete.
