Skywind 2026 Update Shows Broad Progress With Audio Bottlenecks Still Blocking a Date

The team cites audio backlogs plus a few unfinished regions as the last hurdles to setting a date.

Overview

  • Skywind, which posted a new progress video Friday, reported strong gains across art, writing, and quests but still set no release date.
  • The team said 10 of 13 exterior regions are about 90% complete, with Zafirbel Bay near 80–85%, West Ashlands at about 60%, and Red Mountain near 40% and likely last to finish.
  • Voice work is mostly recorded with about 300 actors covering roughly 92% of 3,000 NPCs, though only about 22,000 lines—around 12%—are mixed and the team has shifted to batch processing to speed mastering.
  • Core Morrowind systems are now in Skywind, including layered armor, spellcrafting, an NPC class system, disarmable traps, throwing weapons, paralysis, and improved underwater combat.
  • The volunteer project says it uses no generative AI and is recruiting 3D artists, asset implementers, dialogue editors, programmers for NPC behavior, and QA testers.
