Skydiver Killed in Midair Collision During Group Jump in Eastern Washington

Investigators have opened a continuing probe into the collision and are urging witnesses to contact the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Overview

  • A midair collision during an 11-person group jump on Sunday evening left one skydiver dead and another injured after their parachutes made contact during descent.
  • Authorities and the drop‑zone operator identified the pair as Randy Hubbs of Kennewick and Nicole Klein of Colville and said both were experienced jumpers using their own equipment.
  • Witnesses and staff reported that Hubbs became incapacitated after the impact, appeared unresponsive while staff tracked him from about 500 feet, drifted away from the landing area, and was later found deceased.
  • Officials said weather did not appear to contribute to the incident and the operator is cooperating with investigators while an autopsy or medical exam may be used to determine the exact cause of death.
  • The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing, asked anyone with information to call 509‑659‑1122 or email CrimeTips@co.adams.wa.us, and noted that skydiving deaths are rare compared with total jumps.
