Six-Year-Old Girl Killed in Newry Collision, Driver Held in Custody

Police say public footage could help establish the circumstances to guide legal decisions.

  • Police received a report at approximately 9.25pm on Sunday, June 21, of a collision in the Springfarm Heights area involving a black Ford Tourneo van and a child.
  • The child, identified by officers as Kourtney Khloe McCormick who had just turned six, was taken to hospital and later died from her injuries.
  • Officers arrested the van driver, a 40-year-old woman, at the scene and she remains in custody while the PSNI Collision Investigation Unit conducts enquiries.
  • Detectives have kept nearby junctions closed to preserve evidence and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam or other footage to contact police quoting reference 1552 21/06/26.
  • The local community has arranged a funeral for Saturday, June 27, requested mourners wear bright colours, and launched a fundraiser to support Kourtney’s family as inquiries continue and any charging decisions await further evidence.
