Overview
- Local residents and police first reported the whale after it was found on the sand on Sunday, June 21, prompting an immediate cordon by the Policía Nacional del Perú.
- Field teams from the Instituto del Mar del Perú (Imarpe) described the cetacean as about six meters long, gray with white patches on its underside, and began on-site diagnostics.
- Specialists from Sernanp and Serfor are scheduled to join Imarpe’s work to assess the whale’s health and decide on necropsy, disposal or conservation measures.
