Six Arrested in Amritsar Police Station Grenade Attack Linked to Suspected ISI Module

Police say a Pakistan-based handler directed the plot, prompting a broader hunt for cross-border links.

Overview

  • Punjab Police, which announced the breakthrough Monday, said a joint Amritsar Rural–Faridkot operation led to six arrests and the seizure of two pistols.
  • Investigators said the suspects took orders from a Pakistan-based handler and that the module appears ISI-backed, a preliminary finding now under probe as officers cite radicalisation and promises of large payouts.
  • The six arrested — Baljit Singh, Prabh Singh, Rajbir Singh, Sukhpreet Singh, Ajaydeep Singh (alias Gazni) and Sahib Singh (alias Saba) — all live in Amritsar district, according to police.
  • Police said the group retrieved two grenades near Gharinda, scouted the station, and carried out the strike on March 29–30, then hid in wheat fields for hours and dumped their clothes before fleeing; no injuries were reported.
  • An FIR under the Explosive Substances Act, UAPA, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (India’s updated criminal code) and the Arms Act frames a wider inquiry into recent low-intensity attacks on security sites in Punjab.
