SIT Issues Fresh Notice to KCR, Sets Questioning at Nandi Nagar Home in Phone-Tapping Case

SIT says sensitive records require questioning at his Nandi Nagar home.

Overview

  • After K. Chandrashekhar Rao sought a postponement and asked to be examined at his Erravalli farmhouse, the SIT directed him to face questioning at his Hyderabad residence at 3 pm on Sunday.
  • Investigators cited the need to consult sensitive electronic and physical records that they said could not be transported to Erravalli.
  • KCR invoked Section 160 of the CrPC, noting his age above 65 and requesting examination at his place of residence while pointing to municipal nomination duties on January 30.
  • The probe has recently questioned senior BRS figures including K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao and Joginpally Santosh Kumar for hours as investigators review electronic and documentary evidence.
  • The case alleges widespread unauthorised surveillance during the previous BRS regime with former SIB chief T. Prabhakar Rao named as the main accused, as BRS leaders denounce the SIT’s actions as political vendetta before municipal elections and Congress leaders defend the inquiry as lawful.
