The NHRC has directed police to recover deleted Krishnalanka CCTV footage within a week to help trace mortal remains and key leads.

Overview

  • State SIT investigators have arrested suspended Circle Inspector S.S.V.V. Nagaraju and detained his friend Suresh after a remand report flagged an alleged custodial death and destruction of evidence.
  • Investigators are hunting two absconding head constables, Jangam Nani and Ashok, and have deployed teams to Hyderabad and Bengaluru to trace them and other suspects.
  • The NHRC has formally asked the Andhra Pradesh DGP and Chief Secretary for detailed reports and ordered recovery of deleted CCTV/DVR data from Krishnalanka police station within seven days.
  • Sai Krishna’s mother has secured the High Court’s admission of a habeas corpus petition that asks for the probe to be transferred to the CBI or another independent agency.
  • The case has taken on political weight because the victim belonged to the Kapu community and parties are using the episode to press for accountability and probe transparency.
