Single Ticket Wins R95-Million South African PowerBall Jackpot

Sizekhaya has verified the prize and begun claim procedures while the PowerBall XTRA remained unwon and is set to cascade toward about R20 million.

Overview

  • Sizekhaya confirmed late Saturday that one ticket matched the 02, 04, 05, 24, 49 and PowerBall 04 in the 21 August draw and that the jackpot payout was R93,523,480.
  • The PowerBall XTRA draw from the same 21 August event was not won and the XTRA prize pool is estimated to roll to roughly R20 million for the next cascading draw.
  • Sizekhaya has published prize rules and regional claiming steps saying prizes above R49,999 require an in-person visit with ID and the original ticket and winners of R50,000 or more are offered free trauma counselling and financial advice.
  • The South African confirmation comes as other major lotteries moved at the same time: EuroMillions rolled to about €49 million, Mega Millions was estimated near $113 million ahead of its draw, U.S. Powerball sat near $68 million after its 22 August drawing, and Canada’s Lotto Max reported a $55 million winner in Quebec.
  • Recent operator and market changes affect pools and payouts: Powerball’s sales expansion to the U.K. grows the player base and alters prize formats across jurisdictions, while Sizekhaya pays South African prizes tax-free and gives winners 365 days to claim.
