Singapore Extends Bedok TB Screening To May 8 After Strong Response

Officials say the cluster poses low risk from casual contact.

Overview

  • The Communicable Diseases Agency extended screening at Heartbeat@Bedok to May 8 after Monday’s strong turnout, with free appointments also available at designated clinics through Jun 5.
  • A total of 708 people had been screened by 6pm Monday across Heartbeat@Bedok and a SATA clinic.
  • Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on Tuesday said dining at the Bedok 216 hawker centre is safe because tuberculosis generally requires long, close exposure to spread.
  • The National Environment Agency and East Coast Town Council will give a half‑month rent rebate and a half‑month waiver of service and conservancy fees to affected hawkers and merchants.
  • Investigators used genome sequencing to link 13 cases across three nearby sites, and all patients started treatment with 12 assessed as no longer infectious.
