Sindh to Introduce Hindu Religious Textbooks for Grades 3–5 in Public Schools in 2026–27

Outside funding enables an immediate launch through the provincial textbook board.

Overview

  • Sindh’s Education Department, which won approval on April 20 from the Sindh Curriculum Council’s executive committee, authorized three Hindu religious textbooks for use in the 2026–27 school year.
  • The Sindh Textbook Board will handle distribution, while Karachi-based Prem Sagar Sanstha will publish and pay for the first year’s print run.
  • Officials asked the textbook board to set aside funds for publication in the following academic year to keep the program going.
  • Education leaders say the aim is to include minority students and encourage tolerance, giving Hindu children faith-specific classes rather than a generic Ethics course.
  • About 129,119 Hindu students are enrolled in grades 3–5 in Sindh’s public schools, with the largest numbers in Tharparkar and Umerkot, and this provincial rollout builds on 2023 federal clearances for minority-faith textbooks.
