Overview
- Police teams carried out coordinated night raids on Lovely Spa and Lotus Spa in Silchar and detained 28 women after finding evidence the parlours were used for prostitution.
- Officers picked up 21 women from Lovely Spa and seven from Lotus Spa while other people at the premises fled and are being sought using seized records.
- The detainees and the spa owners have been charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, and were produced before the district court where police sought custodial remand.
- Identity documents in the seized registration books show many women list districts in Assam and two list Dimapur in Nagaland, which has led police to probe a possible interstate trafficking racket.
- Police say investigators must distinguish possible victims from offenders as they continue to identify more people, locate the absconding owners, and examine registration records for wider network links.
