Sikkim Sets April 24 Urban Local Body Polls, Counting on April 25

The Model Code of Conduct now governs campaigning across nine urban bodies.

  • The State Election Commission, which announced the schedule Monday, set polling from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 24 with counting at 8 a.m. on April 25.
  • Nomination filing opens March 30 and the last day to withdraw a candidacy is April 4, per the commission.
  • Voters will choose representatives for 63 wards across nine municipalities and nagar panchayats, covering 93,697 electors.
  • The vote follows delimitation that expanded wards and added the Pakyong and Soreng nagar panchayats, with Gangtok Municipal Corporation the largest unit at 21 wards and 58,703 voters.
  • The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has released its slate and says it is confident of a landslide under Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
