Overview
- Intruders broke a side entrance around 1 am at the Hanuman Mandir in Shillong’s Garikhana and ransacked the shrine.
- The group set fire to CCTV cameras installed inside and outside the temple to erase evidence.
- Thieves took small idols of Krishna, Radha and Hanuman, brass ritual items, four silver ornaments and cash, leaving the main idol untouched.
- Footage from nearby homes recorded the suspects fleeing, and the files were given to Lumdiengjri police with an FIR by temple representative Ravi Sharma.
- Police have launched a probe and are seeking the stolen items, as residents in Garikhana and Jhalupara question night patrols in the area.
