Overview
- The Shenzhen Natural History Museum opened on July 28, 2026, and sits on more than 105,000 square meters beside Yanzi Lake in Pingshan District, with large parts of the site open to the public without an admission fee.
- Designed by Danish firm 3XN with B+H Architects and Zhubo Design, the granite-clad building folds into terraces and a broad walkable roof that extends the surrounding terrain into civic parkland.
- The museum’s galleries include eight themed halls that trace about 4.6 billion years of Earth history and dedicated displays that highlight southern China, Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta and current conservation efforts.
- Behind the scenes the complex houses laboratories, scientific collections, an astronomical observatory and education spaces intended to support research and teaching at a regional and international level.
- The project links Shenzhen’s rapid urban transformation with new public green space and could draw visitors and researchers from across the Pearl River Delta, including Hong Kong and Guangzhou, while giving local residents daily access to museum grounds.
