Shelby Hewitt Pleads Guilty in Boston School Impostor Case, Gets 4 Years’ Probation

Prosecutors say she used aliases with forged records to enter three high schools during the 2022–2023 year.

Overview

  • Under a plea agreement accepted by a Suffolk Superior Court judge, Hewitt will serve four years of probation, pay more than $9,000 in restitution, and stay away from Boston Public Schools.
  • She pleaded guilty to three counts of forgery, one count of identity fraud, and one count of violating public employee standards of conduct, while four other charges were dismissed.
  • Hewitt apologized in court, saying her actions caused confusion and fear in school communities and acknowledging she should not have been there.
  • Prosecutors said she enrolled at Jeremiah E. Burke High School, Brighton High School, and The English High School using fake names and birthdates, and she drew on her work experience to create forged child-welfare documents.
  • The case, first charged in 2023, experienced delays tied to her mental health history, and prosecutors said she collected her state salary during the period of the deception.
