Shea Wins Travis County Precinct 2 as Precinct 4 Race Advances to Runoff

With no Republicans on the ballot, the Democratic outcomes effectively decide control of county seats that manage Travis County’s $2.2 billion budget.

Overview

  • Unofficial returns show Brigid Shea at a little over 57% in Precinct 2, with Amanda Marzullo near 31%, Rick Astray-Caneda just above 6%, and Reese Ricci Armstrong slightly over 5%.
  • Shea has effectively secured a fourth term, though an independent hopeful, Edwin Bautista, has until late June to qualify for November’s ballot.
  • Precinct 4 will be decided in a May 26 runoff between former constable George Morales III, at about 37% in early totals, and Del Valle ISD trustee Susanna Ledesma-Woody, close to 36%.
  • Ofelia Maldonado Zapata and Gavino Fernandez Jr. trailed in Precinct 4 with roughly 21% and 6%, respectively, according to unofficial counts.
  • The open Precinct 4 seat follows Commissioner Margaret Gómez’s retirement after 52 years in public service, and the eventual Democratic winner will be unopposed in November.
