- Spirit Media, founded by Rana Daggubati, announced Monday it will release Tribeny Rai’s Shape of Momo in theaters across India and Nepal on May 29 with Payal Kapadia, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti as executive producers.
- The debut feature is set in a Sikkim Himalayan village and follows three generations of women in one family as they live with shared histories.
- The film premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, screened at San Sebastián, and built word-of-mouth during a wider festival run.
- Dalley Khorsani Production produced the film with Kathkala Films with a mostly women crew led by cinematographer Archana Ghangrekar, and the cast includes the late Bhanu Maya Rai with Gaumaya Gurung, Pashupati Rai, Rahul Mukhia and Shyamashree Sherpa.
- Spirit Media has been building an indie slate that includes Payal Kapadia’s Cannes Grand Prix winner All We Imagine as Light and Sundance winner Cactus Pears, which signals more festival titles reaching local screens.
