Shah Inaugurates SSB Projects in Bihar’s Araria, Vows Drive to Remove ‘Infiltrators’

The three-day Seemanchal review signals a push for tighter border administration via electoral roll revisions, encroachment removal, and new outposts.

Overview

  • On day two of his Bihar tour, Amit Shah dedicated new SSB border outposts at Leti and Indarwa in Araria and launched projects worth roughly ₹175 crore, urging stronger village-level intelligence along the Nepal frontier.
  • Shah pledged a campaign to identify and deport what he called infiltrators, stating the effort will start in Seemanchal and include demolishing illegal encroachments within 10 kilometres of the international border.
  • Officials said a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is being prepared for sensitive border belts to flag suspected illegal migrants, a move West Bengal’s leadership has criticised as an NRC-style exercise.
  • In meetings with SSB, BSF, LPAI and district authorities, Shah directed closer civil–police coordination, identification of unauthorised occupants, and SOPs tailored to porous stretches vulnerable to smuggling and trafficking.
  • The visit, framed by the Centre as a national-security push near the Siliguri Corridor, drew opposition charges of political targeting ahead of West Bengal elections as Shah voiced confidence of a BJP victory there.
