S.F. State Guarantees Admission for Qualified SFUSD Seniors and City College Transfers

The local pact gives San Francisco students access to the CSU direct-admission pathway despite the district’s exclusion from the program’s first-year rollout.

Overview

  • San Francisco State, SFUSD and City College launched a guaranteed-admission partnership that offers eligible local students a clear route into the university.
  • Qualified SFUSD seniors must complete A–G courses with grades of C or better and hold at least a 2.5 GPA in grades 10–12.
  • Eligible City College students need at least 60 transferable units with a 2.0 GPA and completion of four core courses with grades of C‑ minus or better.
  • The university will notify students with prominent postcards and provide workshops for financial aid and enrollment support, though recipients must still file a formal application and pay the $70 fee.
  • Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB 640 to create CSU’s statewide direct-admission program starting in January, and S.F. State’s move follows steep enrollment losses and evidence from a Riverside pilot that boosted applications and enrollments.
