Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Texas Hill Country and I-35 Corridor Through 1 p.m.

A fast-moving cold front should cap the storm risk as it sweeps through.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service has a severe thunderstorm watch in place until 1 p.m. for much of the Hill Country and parts of the Interstate 35 corridor.
  • Forecasters warn of hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts up to 70 mph in the watch area.
  • Radar shows a strong cluster near Junction and Mason moving east toward Llano and Burnet with golf ball-size hail and 60 mph gusts possible.
  • The San Antonio metro is not under the watch as the higher risk sits to the north, with better chances from Fredericksburg to the Austin area.
  • A cold front moving through the region is expected to stabilize the air and push the threat east of Austin and the Interstate 35 corridor.
