Severe Storms Snap Dozens of Power Poles and Leave Thousands Without Power in Southeast Wisconsin

We Energies says crews are working around the clock as they assess 50 to 60 snapped poles and miles of downed lines.

Overview

  • Powerful winds on Thursday evening swept through southeast Wisconsin, knocking down trees and power lines and producing concentrated outages in Kenosha and Racine counties.
  • We Energies has restored more than 27,000 customers but about 9,000 remain without electricity, with roughly 8,500 of those outages in Kenosha County.
  • The utility estimates 50 to 60 power poles were torn down and miles of lines damaged, including an entire row of snapped poles along Highway 45 near Highway 142 that left low-hanging wires.
  • Crews are working around the clock to rebuild poles and lines, and officials urge residents to stay at least 25 feet from downed wires, report them immediately, and call 211 for extended outages.
  • Racine County reports most road-blocking debris has been cleared while Kenosha continues larger cleanup and repairs, and We Energies warns some customers may be without power for days.
