Severe Storms Cut Power to Over 700 Ukrainian Communities

Ukrenergo urges midday electricity use to relieve the evening peak.

Overview

  • More than 700 settlements across 19 regions were fully or partly without power after strong winds and thunderstorms overnight.
  • The national grid operator said regional utility crews were restoring damaged lines where it is safe to work.
  • Ongoing Russian drone strikes also left parts of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv and Kherson without electricity.
  • Ukrenergo reported demand was 4.2% lower than the previous working day because sunny weather boosted home solar output and many customers were offline from the storm.
  • The operator set a household use plan, asking heavy use from 10:00 to 16:00 and restraint from 18:00 to 22:00, and said no rolling outages were planned.
