Seven Killed in Two Separate Crashes Near Guwahati

Investigations will determine whether wrong‑side driving, excessive speed, or roadside parking failures caused the two collisions.

Overview

  • A head‑on crash in Kamrup district left three people dead after an SUV struck a truck reported to be on the wrong side of the road; police identified the victims as Parth Pratim Burman, Ranjit Dey and Karuna Bezbarua and said the truck driver fled the scene.
  • A separate collision at Tetelia near Sonapur involved a Bolero hitting a parked truck and killed four Arunachal Pradesh residents identified as Linge/Lingi Barsa, his wife Kunga Dolma, their son Gemar Basar, and Gemar’s friend Karma Sherab Khrimey.
  • Police and eyewitnesses reporting from the Sonapur scene said there were no skid marks and estimated the vehicle speed at about 120 km/h, leading investigators to consider excessive speed or driver fatigue as possible causes.
  • Traffic officials said the parked truck at Tetelia had been spotted earlier during an enforcement drive and its driver had been asked to move the vehicle, and police have begun detailed forensic checks, postmortems and evidence collection in both cases.
  • The twin tragedies have raised questions about roadside parking enforcement and driver rest and speed controls in the region, and authorities say further findings will determine legal responsibility and any operational changes.
