Overview
- The two shootings, which occurred on Wednesday night, left seven people dead and five injured in Lost City, Tafelsig and Marcus Garvey, Philippi East.
- In the first attack at about 8:10pm at the corner of Laura Street and 8th Avenue in Lost City, three men aged 18, 19 and 51 were killed and two others aged 17 and 22 were taken to hospital.
- About 20 minutes later at a residence in Marcus Garvey, seven people were shot, four of whom were aged between 17 and 20 and died while three were admitted to hospital.
- Western Cape police say the motive and any link between the two incidents remain unknown, detectives are investigating, deployments in both areas have been raised and authorities are urging the public to submit anonymous tips.
