Seven Killed in Two Near‑Simultaneous Shootings on the Cape Flats

Police have increased patrols, opening an investigation that seeks anonymous tips via Crime Stop or the MySAPSApp.

  • About 20 minutes later at a residence in Marcus Garvey, seven people were shot, four of whom were aged between 17 and 20 and died while three were admitted to hospital.
  • Western Cape police say the motive and any link between the two incidents remain unknown, detectives are investigating, deployments in both areas have been raised and authorities are urging the public to submit anonymous tips.
  • Community members and the provincial Community Police Forum expressed alarm at the number of young victims, and local neighbourhood‑watch accounts say two men walked past and opened fire though those claims are unverified by police.
