Overview
- A cluster of low-to-moderate magnitude quakes was recorded across Oaxaca, Chiapas and Guerrero between July 2 and July 4, according to the Servicio Sismológico Nacional.
- Individual events ranged about M3.5–3.9 with reported focal depths from very shallow (around 4–16 km) to intermediate and deep (about 54–107 km), which affects how and where the shaking was felt.
- The SSN published exact times, coordinates and depths through its official social channels and said its network is operating 24 hours a day to track further activity.
- Local and state Protección Civil authorities reported no significant damage or casualties and reiterated standard preparedness measures such as emergency kits, evacuation routes and structural checks.
- Mexico’s position on the Pacific Ring of Fire makes frequent small quakes normal so officials said they will only issue wider alerts if larger, widely felt tremors that could cause damage are detected.
