Sergio Chapa Jr., 61, Charged After Security Shooting at Calaveras Power Plant

Deputies say he drove through the gate toward a guard, was shot in the leg, then booked on aggravated assault plus criminal trespass of infrastructure.

Overview

  • The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. Thursday at the CPS Energy-owned Calaveras Power Plant Station in the 12000 block of U.S. Highway 181 South.
  • BCSO says Sergio Chapa Jr. drove a 2007 white Infinity G35 into the facility and toward a security officer at the gate.
  • The guard fired once and struck Chapa in the upper leg, and he was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Chapa was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center just after 1 p.m. Friday, and a judge set his bond at $170,000 on the new charges.
  • He faces counts of aggravated assault against a security officer and criminal trespass of critical infrastructure, and CPS Energy said the plant remains secure.
