SEPTA Unveils World Cup Transit Plan for Philadelphia

Sponsor-covered trips home underscore a plan to keep World Cup travel affordable.

Overview

  • SEPTA, which detailed its plan Monday, will add Broad Street Line trains to NRG Station to move fans to Lincoln Financial Field.
  • Both subway lines will run overnight on match days with 30‑minute frequencies, with overnight stops including Frankford and 69th Street on the Market‑Frankford Line and Fern Rock and NRG on the Broad Street Line.
  • Rides keep the regular $2.90 fare, and Airbnb will fund free trips home from NRG Station from halftime through two hours after each match.
  • Routes 32 and 48 will run every 15 minutes or less to the FIFA Fan Festival at Lemon Hill, and nearby neighborhoods will rely on residential permits instead of festival parking.
  • SEPTA expects about 31,000 riders per match and says the Broad Street Line can carry roughly 15,000 people per hour, with six Philadelphia matches scheduled from June 14 to a Round of 16 game on July 4.
