Overview
- SEPTA ran an initial Route 45 trip to the Navy Yard this week and plans to expand the routing into regular seven-day service later this month.
- The extension adds two Center City stops, several South Philadelphia stops and nine stops inside the Navy Yard to provide a one-seat ride for many commuters.
- PIDC will keep operating its weekday shuttle even after SEPTA’s change, giving riders more choices for travel between Center City and the Navy Yard.
- Officials framed the move as part of a multi-year SEPTA bus-network redesign developed with communities and stakeholders to improve operations and access.
- The Navy Yard is now a 1,200-acre mixed-use campus with more than 150 employers and about 16,000 workers, and early residential openings this year have increased demand for reliable transit.
