Separate South Side Shootings Leave Three Wounded and a 19-Year-Old Dead

Area detectives are investigating both cases with no arrests reported.

  • A 33-year-old man was shot in the chest and a 29-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, and both were listed in fair condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
  • A 17-year-old boy in the same incident suffered a graze wound to his eyebrow and was reported in good condition.
  • In a separate West Lawn attack on the 4000 block of West 69th Street, the Cook County Medical Examiner identified the man killed as 19-year-old Giovannie E. Vargas of Cary.
  • Chicago police said the West Lawn shooter may have fired from a vehicle, and Area One detectives are investigating both shootings with no suspects in custody.
