Overview
- Overnight Saturday into Sunday separate shootings on Chicago’s West Side, in South Austin and in Harlem resulted in multiple teens and young adults being shot and hospitalized.
- At a large West Side gathering three people were struck and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, including a 19-year-old man in serious condition after officers applied a tourniquet at the scene.
- In South Austin an 18-year-old man was later pronounced dead after a shooting inside a home and a 17-year-old was taken into custody with a gun recovered as police called the incident apparently domestic and planned to file charges.
- Near a Harlem basketball court four people ages 16 to 21 were shot and sent to Harlem Hospital in stable condition while detectives work to determine how many shooters were involved and no arrests have been made.
- Investigators in both cities say large crowds and chaotic scenes have hampered identification of shooters and these episodes add to recent weekend clusters of youth-involved gun violence that have drawn local concern and calls for stronger responses.
