Sepang Secures MotoGP Return With Five-Year Deal Through 2031

The agreement provides calendar certainty for Malaysia and preserves Sepang as the championship’s testing and season-launch base.

Overview

  • A new five-year contract signed on July 1 keeps the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang for the 2027–2031 editions.
  • The Malaysian Cabinet gave formal approval for the renewal at its April 15, 2026 meeting, a step the government framed as boosting tourism, jobs and motorsport development.
  • MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and the Malaysian sports minister said the deal reflects Malaysia’s strong fan base and that the series will return to Sepang through 2031.
  • Sepang will continue to host non-race MotoGP activities, including the pre-season Shakedown, Official tests and season-launch events, maintaining its wider role for teams and manufacturers.
