Senior Prank at New Jersey High School Escalates to Overnight Vandalism and Discipline

Officials say students exceeded the prank guidelines and the district investigation could lead to charges for juveniles and adults.

What started as a prank to display a “for sale” banner outside Manchester Township High School escalated into students allegedly making their way onto the school’s roof, tossing around toilet paper inside and outside of the building and covering floors with balloons, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

  • Students who were allowed a supervised senior prank allegedly re-entered Manchester Township High School late on June 17 and vandalized school property during an overnight incident.
  • Video and photos show toilet paper and streamers inside rooms, a homemade “For Sale!” sign on the entrance, dozens of students on the entrance overhang, an RV on campus and damage to a pickup truck.
  • Timestamped footage shared by Jersey Shore Online and on TikTok includes images from about 3:45–3:46 a.m. that documented the crowd and the property damage.
  • School officials have imposed discipline including at least one expulsion, multiple suspensions and bans on several seniors from walking at graduation, which was moved inside the school gym.
  • The district says the inquiry remains open, no criminal charges have been announced, and investigators are working with the Board of Education while warning that charges involving juveniles and adults may follow.
