Overview
- The paritary act signed July 18–19 by congressional administrators and union leaders makes a cumulative 6.7% raise effective with 2.4% retroactive to June, 2.2% for July and 1.9% for August and sets senators’ gross monthly diets at about 11,877,000 pesos from August.
- The rise happens automatically because a 2024 ley de enganche links the value of legislative salary modules to any congress staff paritary, so increases agreed for unions raise senators’ pay without a separate vote.
- The same agreement raises congressional staff wages so that Category 1 will reach about 2,509,123 pesos and Category 6 about 1,193,538 pesos in August, and unions have asked for a commission to formalize pay after a disputed bonus was granted without an acta.
- The new adjustments bring senators’ total Jan–Aug increases close to 19%, which is above the INDEC IPC of 16.8% to June and widens the gap with deputies who earn roughly 6,072,000 pesos gross.
- Some senators can avoid the increase by formally renouncing or donating it, a step already taken this year by members of La Libertad Avanza, the UCR, the PRO and some provincial blocs, and the issue is expected to return to congressional committees after the recess.
