Senators Linked to SabresDevon Levi as Low-Cost Backup Option

A trade would give Ottawa an inexpensive, contract-controlled backup to support starter Linus Ullmark.

Overview

  • Multiple outlets reported on May 22–23 that the Ottawa Senators are among several teams exploring a trade for Buffalo goaltender Devon Levi.
  • Levi, 24, spent 2025–26 with the AHL’s Rochester Americans and posted a 2.83 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in 52 games.
  • He is under contract for one more season at an $812,500 average annual value and will be a restricted free agent next summer with arbitration rights.
  • Buffalo’s depth of goalies, including Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Alex Lyon and Colton Ellis, has made Levi expendable and could push the Sabres to trade him rather than risk losing him on waivers.
  • Ottawa is weighing Levi against internal options such as Leevi Merilainen and Mads Sogaard and could be asked to give up an RFA-level asset like Merilainen or a mid/late draft pick to complete a trade.
