Senamhi Warns of New Heat Wave for Lima and Peru’s Coast Through March 8

Warmer coastal seas plus scarce midday cloud cover are driving the return of high heat, the agency says.

Overview

  • The forecast runs from March 4–8 for the entire Peruvian coast, with heat persisting through nights and early mornings.
  • In Lima, daytime highs are expected at 27–30 °C in western and central districts, reaching about 32 °C in the east and north.
  • On the northern coast, maxima could reach 32–37 °C in Piura and Tumbes and 31–35 °C in Lambayeque, with nights near 24–26 °C.
  • Elsewhere, projected ranges include 30–37 °C in Ica, 30–33 °C in La Libertad, 28–34 °C in Lima and Áncash, and 28–35 °C in Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna.
  • The forecast follows Lima’s longest hot spell of the season, an 18-day daytime heat wave recorded from February 11 to 28.
