Overview
- Virender Sehwag said Delhi skipped a young Virat Kohli in the inaugural IPL because the squad already overflowed with top-order batters and needed a bowler.
- He recalled that Kohli was batting at No. 3 or 4 then, with Gautam Gambhir, Sehwag, Shikhar Dhawan, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Manoj Tiwary filling the top order.
- After Delhi passed, Kohli signed with Royal Challengers Bengaluru for USD 50,000 and has played every IPL season for that one franchise.
- Kohli is the league’s all-time leading scorer and currently holds the Orange Cap with 228 runs in five matches for the defending champions.
- Pradeep Sangwan gave Delhi three seasons for 29 wickets in 28 games and later turned out for Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions.
