Security Forces Dismantle 16 Bunkers and Seize Arms Cache in Ukhrul

Overview

• A joint team of Manipur Police, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles carried out a nearly five hour operation on June 11 in the Horei Kaphung Hills that led to the demolition of 16 unauthorised bunkers.
• Security teams recovered a large weapons cache that included an SMG carbine, four bolt action rifles, a 9mm pistol, a 12-bore gun, live rounds, spent casings and a radio set.
• Officers reported spotting about a dozen armed people on a hilltop, with several fleeing and eight individuals detained, disarmed and later released after being warned against carrying arms or entering restricted hills.
• The seized materiel has been handed to the local police station for legal processing and forces said they will continue joint search operations in the area.
• Officials have increased area domination patrols and electronic surveillance in Ukhrul's foothills to reduce the risk of attacks and to limit armed groups' ability to reestablish fortified positions.
