Overview
- Acting on credible information, the Commissioner’s Task Force (North Zone) and Market police raided a Second Bazar residence on December 13.
- The accused, Annamali Sainathan, 68, was taken into custody, with police noting he shifted to the illicit trade after closing a tiffin centre due to financial difficulties.
- Investigators say he blended coconut, palm and other vegetable oils with food colours to pass the product off as cow ghee.
- Police seized about 200 kg of the adulterated ghee along with a weighing machine, a packing machine, packing covers and a mobile phone, valued at roughly ₹1.5 lakh.
- The product was packed in one-litre poly packs and supplied to local markets and pooja stores at ₹600 per kg, and the investigation continues under relevant BNS provisions.
