Overview
- Police issued Section 34 dispersal orders in Burnley and in Woodley and Lower Caversham on Saturday, June 13, after a protest and reports of public disorder at a carnival.
- Lancashire Police said four people were arrested on the first night of the Burnley order on suspicion of public order offences and exposure and all remain in custody while enquiries continue.
- The Burnley protest followed an alleged stabbing in nearby Brierfield on June 12 in which a 17-year-old girl was injured; she has been discharged from hospital and a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
- Thames Valley Police put orders in place covering Woodley town centre and nearby streets and said a teenage boy suffered minor injuries but no arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
- Section 34 gives officers the power to require people to leave specified areas to prevent harassment, alarm or disorder, and local leaders urged calm as police maintain a visible presence and organisers seek volunteers to restore community events and businesses affected by the disruption.
