Second Teen Arrested in South Boston Lemonade-Stand Armed Robbery

Closing a month-long search, the arrest sends the case into juvenile delinquency proceedings.

Overview

  • On June 10, an 11-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother were approached at their South Boston lemonade stand and one suspect allegedly displayed a gun before taking about $50 from their cash box.
  • Police released surveillance video showing the two suspects fleeing toward Dorchester Street and arrested a first 14-year-old suspect on June 12 after investigators used the footage to identify him.
  • The second 14-year-old turned himself in on Friday accompanied by his mother and was taken into custody, ending the roughly month-long search for the second suspect.
  • Police charged the second teen with two counts of delinquency to wit: armed robbery and one count of delinquency to wit: carrying a firearm without a license; neither suspect’s name was released because they are juveniles.
  • South Boston rallied around the siblings with a charity lemonade stand backed by city officials and community donations, and the children directed part of their reopened stand’s proceeds to a gun-violence prevention group.
