Overview
- Individuals walking along Cachagua Road in Carmel Valley reported a skull on Jan. 29, and deputies secured the area around 6:45 p.m.
- Coroner personnel located additional skeletal remains at the Cachagua site during a dayslong follow-up examination.
- An earlier skull discovery on Dec. 29 near Viejo Road, reported by a land surveyor, also yielded additional remains after investigators processed the scene.
- Authorities say it remains unclear whether the recovered bones at the sites belong to one person, and DNA analysis is pending.
- Separately, a man's body was found near Salinas north of Highway 183, and the sheriff's office says the cases are not believed to be related.
