Second Main Suspect Arrested in Milano Certosa Group Killing

Prosecutors say the attack was a premeditated punitive expedition and police are still identifying other participants for prosecution.

Overview

  • A 22-year-old, Gianluca Ibarra Silvera, was chased, beaten and stabbed to death near Milano Certosa station in a large group assault that investigators say took place on the night of May 25–26.
  • Police and the Milan prosecutor used CCTV, witness statements and photographic IDs to link about 17 people to the episode and to build a case that the attack was planned rather than a spontaneous brawl.
  • A 19-year-old Peruvian, Jefferson Smit Echevarria Verano, had his detention convalidated by a gip who cited clear signs of premeditation and symbolic disposal of the body, and he has admitted Latin Kings membership while denying he delivered the fatal stabs.
  • Authorities said a second main suspect, 20-year-old Isaia Gonzalo Linares Melendez, was arrested on June 10 after being tracked on a Flixbus arriving in Bardonecchia following an escape through France and Spain.
  • Investigators plan further identifications and charges to clarify who used knives and who ordered the operation, while the case raises wider concerns about youth gang rivalries, mistaken identity and public safety at transport hubs.
