- On Aug. 3 a coalition of major venue operators including Climate Pledge Arena, the Space Needle and Seafair sent an open letter asking Mayor Katie Wilson to immediately reactivate 22 CCTV feeds in the Stadium District and Pioneer Square.
- Mayor Wilson ordered those Stadium District feeds turned off after the FIFA World Cup to allow independent reviews of privacy and data governance, and her office says it will wait for an NYU Policing Project audit and a UPenn/Inspector General evaluation due in September.
- Supporters say the Real Time Crime Center helps police identify suspects and reconstruct scenes in near real time, citing King County charging documents that used RTCC footage from an April downtown assault to identify two suspects.
- Police investigating the July 26 Bite of Seattle shooting have at times relied on witness and crowdsourced video because the RTCC-linked feeds in key event zones were offline during the probe.
- The venue coalition also urged expanded camera coverage near Seattle Center and the waterfront, while city policy retains privacy safeguards such as five-day deletion of unflagged footage and a ban on facial recognition.
